Another battle between sanders and long with sanders swim winning it for him. do Aussies still race Ironmans in the men’s? major race. No one Grace Thek came third. Max is still not racing. The Australian-NZ summer was pretty stacked with very competitive local racing. Aaron and Ash are doing Singapore. Whilst it is a major race with a stacked field, it only carries $50K in total prize money - making it a heck of long way to travel for an Aussie middle distance specialist who is likely to be ‘in between’ the local racing circuit in aus/nz and their next genuinely big races (ie. T100 Singapore, or the big ironman races coming up later on). Not many Europeans made the trip for the same reason. Geens raced because it suited him to get his Taupo spot at this stage of the season before he spends the next 5 months concentrating 100% on the Olympics. Which is the only reason why Knibb also turned up to validate. There are about a dozen good Aussie 70.3 specialists (men and women) all of whom had very good reasons to not target Oceanside. All of whom should feature prominently later on in the season. technically it was Lionel’s run that won him the race, but his excellent swim -1:38 down on the leader, but only about 30 seconds down on the main first pack, probably saved his energy levels on the bike so that he had that extra little kick when he broke Sam in the first half of the final leg. Lionel’s “Australian Method” swim training over winter (40km+ swim weeks, with every session containing fast swim sets) is paying off. Already he is back down to about 19.30 for 1500M in a long course pool -mand should improve to back down to sun 19 minutes as the season progresses: enough to get him onto the back of the “Ditlev Group” in the big races.

Not only is it piss poor form, it’s also stupid: they stand to make more money by running their own ads for their sponsors on You Tube than any f*cking subscription fee. Why does Ironman insist on being bone headed about the little things?

I was actually wrong about the effect that Lionel’s swim had on the end result. He mucked up both his transition and then make a wrong turn right at the beginning of the bike and ended up with Long effectively from the start of the bike.

So, it will no doubt mean that all the Ironman Pro Series races will need to be watched live as no free replay. It doesn't make sense and it's pretty unfair for us in the Southern Hemisphere. It was so good having it on utube.

Are we going to have to cop this sh!t to watch Kona and Taupo?
Probably the only two races I could really be bothered watching the whole coverage (although I am always interested in watching a race with Wurfy in it; and probably IM Cairns and maybe some other races, depending on which pros are racing [so maybe even Nice if enough good female pros turn up]). Definetly not enough to justify $A150 for a streaming service that has thus far perobwen itself to be actually pretty unreliable. Especially if Ironman still have Welsh yabbering away like an idiot for 10 hours straight.

Riny and Welshie look like they both just came straight from sinking the beers at a 24hour Irish Pub …
