I would love to do my 5th full but am just not motivated. That little 5th finisher trophy is so close but yet so far away. Some days I say yes, then other days after 3 hours on the bike or running 15 kms, I just cannot see me getting there. The last one was 2005 - imagine next year competing after a 20-year hiatus. This will be my 21st start for HIM/Long Course races (not including the 4 IMs). 35th year of triathlons. A new age group. I am just getting slower on the bike and run. Swim is still OK. Just love seeing everyone up there. There are still faces I know but there are also a lot of newbies (you know, started in the 2000's + ). I am staying in the Breakwall Caravan Park from the Wednesday until the following Tuesday. FM PS: Going for a Trannie swim on Friday morning. Times anyone ?? 7:30 or 8 am maybe ??

Was walking the dog and saw a few folks going for a wetsuit swim in the bay and noticed a decided freshness in the air. Thought to myself how much better the weather was generally, when the race was in April not May.

Was walking the dog and saw a few folks going for a wetsuit swim in the bay and noticed a decided freshness in the air. Thought to myself how much better the weather was generally, when the race was in April not May. Yep. Why do they persist with early May? I recall that staging Ironman Melbourne at the end of March saw IMA pushed back by four weeks, but why keep it in May now? I realise that school holidays sometimes classes with Easter (and both a high season for holiday accommodation) but simply shifting the race between the late weekend of March and the first weekend in April would avoid that issue. This year for example, 7 April would have missed both Easter and the start of the school holidays (that being said, there WAS that weather bomb that hit the east coast of NSW on the Friday before that weekend, which would have played havoc with the organisers final course preparations). … It’s a similar story with IMNZ - the weather always turns in the third week of February in that area around Taupo, which makes the race being held 2 weeks later decidedly ‘iffy’. Ironman should push that race forward by two weeks as well. Also, while I’m thinking about it - both IM NZ and IMA are Triathlon ‘monuments’ and deserve to be included in the Ironman Pro Series. At the moment, there is only one early season ironman race in the pro series, and having 60+ athletes on the start line (and buys like Brownlee denied an entry) at IM Texas is a joke. In my opinion there needs to be three early season pro options, three or four mid season options and then the WC. Perhaps ironman should rotate venues - having two early pro series races each year - between Taupo, Port Mac and South Africa, alongside Texas s the early season ironman offerings for the pro series.

Sunday's rain forecast from BOM has halved over the next couple of days. Was up to 40mm, now 0-20... The bom is absolutely hopeless cant get anything correct , and we pay em $2bil a year last year on race day they said it would rain all day with 40 plus mm it stopped raining at 3am and was fine after that just like my app (yr.com) said it would yr comes from Norway, and is still far more reliable than the bom go figure yr is now saying 22 mm for Sunday but still too far out to be accurate one thing is for sure it’s not gunna be pleasant , probably a bit like today which is cold , windy and showers

Yet we're supposed to believe that the global temperature is going to go up by a couple of degrees by 2100 because the BOM said so...

Pee’d down rain yesterday. Sun is up now but not sure for how long. Trannie Rick is here but cannot find the Green Machine.
Swim tomorrow at 7:30 if anyone is interested.
