Little One ran a PB at Parkrun today with a 29.04, not bad for a 7yr old and useless dad as a coach.

That’s awesome mate. You should be proud, and I hope she was rightly chuffed with herself.

Cheers mate, yeah she was well happy. Drinking apple juice and eating cake 10 mins later at the coffee shop like she'd been for a stroll. Reckon I've got 18mths-2yrs before she's showing me the way around!

She did a 28.58 yesterday. I'd already done 22km of trails with a fully loaded vest and poles before I joined her for Parkrun. I could barely keep up!

So when does the grasshopper beat the mentor? FatPom, I think you had better get some training in for your 5km leg speed.

Sub 5 min ks. Very impressive. Might be best just to take a back seat as coach now mate In all seriousness, I really need to. She's running so fast now that I don't really know what I'm doing in terms of little bodies and development. She really enjoys it but I'm worried that I'm doing something wrong. We have her name down for the local athletics club, they only take Yr4 kids and above, so we'll find out end of this month if she's in.

As you say there is quite a bit to managing growing bodies and athletic endeavors. Pity they dont have the equivalent of Little A's there for the younger kids.

Yeah don't seem to but the athletic club has a huge range of track and field stuff and a number of Jnr coaches and programs, so hope we get in.

Hmm, tricky one yesterday. She ran our local one at Winchester which is known to be slow-ish, it has about 10 dead turns and lots of tree roots, although is flat. Most people reckon it's about 45 secs slower than an average parkrun. However, they regularly move the finish depending on what's happening on the playing fields, so it nearly always short and yesterday was the shortest I'd seen it on my watch, which said 4.83km.
Her 24,50 last week was at Burnham which is a touch over 5km but pretty fast as it's all tarmac or hard gravel.
Yesterday at Winchester, she ran a 24.40, so I'm not sure where that stands. It it a 58sec PB for her on that course though.

C’mon mate, you need to get into triathlete mindset. A PB is a PB, we don’t set the course we just race it. Short swims, tailwinds, drafting,,, all these factors disappear in the recounting of a great PB race. 😂

Did a swim set with our youngest (27) in the Port Douglas Pool Resort pool this morn (69m per lap). She has not swum in 12mths. I struggled to keep up. Getting old sucks.
I'm concocting a stupid plan that we both do our first IM together if/when either of us can run again.

LO pulled off a 24.20 this morning, which considering how muddy and slow the Winchester course is, was pretty amazing. Must be her new trail shoes!

LO has now been picked to represent WADAC (Winchester and District AC) at the Wessex League, which includes Hampshire, Oxford, Surrey and Wiltshire. There are 140 U11s at the club and they only pick 10 girls, so she has done well at just turned 9.
First race in April.

Definitely time to hang up the shoes, get a clipboard, whistle and stopwatch and become the Demir Dokic of Little Athletics.
