For those that don't read their DMs:
Rules: We wish we could live in a society without rules, so let's call these guidelines and stop us from ever having to call them rules.
Still, some people will inevitably act like primary school kids, and for them these are the rules.
Here is the summarised version of our rules: Respect and transparency. Give respect and don't demand it - Don't do anything you wouldn't do in real life just because you have a keyboard to stand behind. We all in turn will be transparent on all dealings, including not deleting posts or threads unless there is a good reason – which we will tell you about.
Everything that follows is an expansion of the above.
Trichat is a community. If you are after a forum that allows you to post without a care, keep looking. The community means different things to our different members, but we all value it enough to be here. Put some credits into our community for the day when you will need to take some out.
Clever banter, humour and sharp wit are welcome and encouraged. Bullying will not be tolerated, no one's life is endangered by other's opinions, however we all need to be mindful of how our words can be interpreted. You have the right to block the individual, or move on. If you choose to attack someone else personally, you will be removed from the forum
You are most welcome to post anything about pretty well anything. But please observe the categories and post under the appropriate headings. Failure to follow this principle will place the perception of your intelligence at risk. Repeat offences will be asked to get psychiatric clearance to operate a keyboard before returning. The two caveats are Politics and Religion which have both a time and place - usually after 8pm, and only in a specific politics thread with warning in the title so normal people can avoid these.
Respect the opinions of others, and expect the same in return. Your Ironman, Marathon PB, Cycling grading or post count are not reflections on your superior right to say what you want within our community.
Fundamentally we hate extremists - if you want to advance a specific viewpoint in various threads with little connection to the original intent of the thread, or without consideration of other viewpoints, you may enjoy our own version of Guantanamo Bay. Don’t come here with the one agenda of pushing your own point of view. Seek help and talk to a real person on how to get past your issue.
Newbies are important for our sport and the forum. We are all getting older and need newbies to remind us of how good it was when we first started. While everyone should be shown respect, we are to be particularly welcoming of newcomers and remember there are no dumb questions or statements
If we wish to encourage Professionals, Race Directors and Administrators of our sport to engage with us, we need to remain civil. Personal attacks on anyone will not be tolerated, keep in mind there is a human behind each log on name. If you suspect your words will discourage activity on the forum, do not post. If you are unsure, take some time to reread the post, or ask a loved one to read your comments before hitting submit.
Think carefully about what you say. Posts will not be removed due to your mood when hitting reply being changed. Like most things on the internet, your posts will be here longer than Jason Shortis's career. After hitting reply, you will have a short time to amend any speeling mistakes. Moderators have lives and will not disrupt these for your change of mind.
(Trichat) is a community that values transparency. Trolls will be exposed as such, Spammers will be resented and their business promotions will be ignored or worse. All committee members and moderators will be known. Threads and posts will not be hidden unless for legal reasons. When this is a requirement, a notice will be made to advise. This is our commitment to you.
The moderating team will take appropriate action when required, including giving away free holidays to your lounge / study / workplace without this forum, or possibly directing you to other forums to spend all of your time on without us.
