I lived overseas in an earthquake zone for over 3 years. We experienced earthquakes each week, from small 2.0's right up to a 7.2. The depth of these were quite shallow so we got a lot of shake. I remember being in a glass store (Prouds) when we had a 6.8. I was holding the glasses on the wall with the owner, hoping they wouldn't fall and smash. I have also been tossed out of bed by one.
For a number of years as part of my job, I monitored earthquakes in the Pacific (>5.0) and the world (>6). I was on call from 6pm to 6am so got phone calls when any of these magnitudes hit. You would not believe how many earthquakes hit globally about 1.30am EST. I still have notifications now, only via email.
So today. VIC lands the biggest earthquake in Australia's recently recorded history - and only 10 kms deep. So did you feel it ?

I was in the Newcastle one and about 2km from the epicentre. It felt way worse than today but today, was heaps longer.
My back glass sliding doors rattled slightly for abotm10 seconds before the entire house began shaking for about 10-12 seconds.
So same same but different.

I lost my earthquake virginity in Manila, Philippines. I can remember it vividly. It was the end of the night of our Xmas function. I was on the way to a mates condo. Just stepped out of the lift on the 25th floor, the lights went out and building started rocking, felt really wierd in the pitch black holding on to the wall to prevent being thrown to the floor. Thought I was drunker that I seemed. The rocking seemed to last forever. I thought to myself "Awww crap I'm going to die in a skirt"... I was dressed in formal scottish attire including the the kilt. Once the lights came back on it was super scarey and exciting at the same time.
I have the Quakefeed app on my phone. Configured to rattle for any global earthquake over 6.0

That was easily the strongest I have experienced, took me quite a way into it to figure out what was going on. It woke up my teenage daughter, which is near impossible. Much stronger and I think there would have been significant cosmetic damage to the house.
