A huge amount around on the eastern seaboard and FN WA. We are travelling up the coast in a few weeks and stopping in to see a few friends along the way. Hopefully we can still see one of my mate's two story house (six car garage underneath). Current photos below of his new place bought only last October. The last photo: I asked him if he caught anything off his balcony. He said he got a couple of catfish but got bored after and hour. He then went and got his air rifle and started picking off cane toads and snakes as they floated past. At least he hasn't lost his sense of humour. Stay safe out there people. FM

Daughter recently moved to Brisbane & said she's never seen rain like it. And the wildlife in her courtyard escaping the flood, a bluetongue they've named Tuck & a snake they've named Maid Marion....cos they live in Sherwood (Forest). The last year in Armidale has seen rain like never before. My fishing has been seriously interrupted, though when not flooded, the local trout stream has been on fire. Got my record trout there a few weeks ago, a 7lb brown on fly, a trout that size is unheard of in the New England. Main road to Coffs is cut for at least 3 weeks due to landslides.

Is it just me or is has there been a plethora of people who gambled on buying cheaply in the flood zones, choose to risk losing everything and now that everything has gone pear shaped, are expecting everybody else to help them them out.
I don't think that the ADF should become the general grunt labor every time the crap hits the fan. At the moment there seems to be a general expectation from various sections of the population and politicians on both sides of the divide that the ADF will automatically be tasked to assist when the brown sticky stuff flows through the streets instead of just hitting fans.
Australians help each other in times of crisis. We always have and we always will. Its part of our DNA. But how many of those people who are currently complaining about the lack or slowness or the inadequateness of the ADF response are prepared to do what the population of the Ukraine are currently doing and would sign up to assist the military and defend the country? I'll suggest that the answer is "not too many."
