From my contact at Ironman in Tampa, its full steam ahead.
As long as you have had the vaccine and can prove it, and have obviously qualified, you'll be allowed to race.
So if you have qualified, and want to race, id suggest the vaccine now and just go and pay the 3k on return to quarantine.

You will need to book a business class trip to guarantee a quarantine spot or book economy really early. Otherwise you might be stuck for a few weeks waiting to come back to Australia. There are worse things than being stuck in Hawaii.

Yeah, the logistics of it aren't just around getting there. There's getting back. And can you just jump on a flight leaving Aus at the moment?

Travelling to an Ironman is currently not on the list. The pro's are except as they are travelling for business.
Australians and permanent residents If you are an Australian citizen or a permanent resident you cannot leave Australia due to COVID-19 restrictions unless you have an exemption. You can apply online but you must meet at least one of the following:
your travel is as part of the response to the COVID-19 outbreak, including the provision of aid
your travel is for your business/employer
you are travelling to receive urgent medical treatment that is not available in Australia
you are travelling outside Australia for a compelling reason for three months or longer
you are travelling on compassionate or humanitarian grounds
your travel is in the national interest.

Going to the world championships is in the National interest.
And Hawaii is a safer place to travel than India.

The host location for IMLP has told IM that all participants will be required to be vaccinated in order to attend. Hawaii has had some of the strictest Covid measures in the US. I wonder if Hawaii will require the same.

The whole 'world championships' becomes a bit of a farce when it becomes about who has the means to get there though, or who has the best contacts.

I read that IM Tulsa and CDA both have 150 slots. It will be a US dominated field in the AG ranks this year.
