Define sports car? I owned a Subaru WRX with go fast bits. Wanted a Porsche 911 until I sat in one and found out they don't work for someone 6'4". Nearly bought a Maserati Gran Turismo off a friend until I saw the service costs. Are BMW M3/4/5 on the list? Outstanding vehicles.

I'm assuming the traditional concept of 2 door low slung, high power to weight ratio car with the optional trophy wife. Although these days there seems to be plenty of 4WDs that are little more than penis extensions. Lifted, big tires, loud exhaust, plenty of steel, 2 spares on the back, lots of lights, with traction boards, shovel and high lift jack bolted to the roof racks and seriously overweight

My 30yo Hilux has a HiLift jack bolted to the roof cos it goes off-road regularly on my weekly fishing jaunts. No lift or big tyres though cos back then they made the suspension high and stiff enough it didn't need it. And it's so much smaller & lighter than modern 4WDs that I'll probably never need to use the jack.

Mine a few years ago on Moreton Island. Only been stuck twice and both times it was extremely soft sand. Bit of digging and I drove out. The bar work I have on there was done when I replaced the damaged original parts.

Didn't quite know where this was going to go yet my penis grew larger with every noun..... Define sports car? I owned a Subaru WRX with go fast bits. It's the insecure have nots that say these things.
Fast cars are cool, but not everybody can afford them Touring 4WDs are cool, but not everybody can afford them TT bikes and aero helmets are cool, but not everybody can afford them
There's always someone toxic who is ready with a put down.

The modern 4WD thing interests me though. They have made them bigger, and way more comfortable on the bitumen so the city folk have embraced them - even though they are a sh!t to park. And yet their off-road ability has been dumbed down massively in terms of clearance, approach/departure angles and suspension stiffness. God knows why you'd buy one if you only do city & highway driving, but plenty do. My mates have a 2021 Triton and a 2020 Mazda BT50 which are awesome on the tar. The Triton is a real stand-out power & comfort wise (and cheaper than the BT50) But off-road, as stock standard the BT50 is a bit of a worry. Not sure about the Triton as I've never seen it in real off-road action. Ground clearance is the biggest issue for both, esp. on rocky creek crossings.

Biased I may be but the Tritons, Pajero Sports and (discontinued) Pajeros are quite a capable bit of kit off road straight out of the box. Replace the standard Highway terrain tires with some All-Terrain and they'll go further than 99% people will ever want to take them. Not everybody is interested in smashing their pride and joy against rock steps and boulders or driving them into door deep mud puddles. Those that do will buy a Patrol or a cruiser and modify the crap out of it. It'll be interesting to see how the new Pajero Sport aims up next year. Rumor has it that it'll be shifting away from the modified Triton chassis that its currently built on and moving back towards the original Pajero concept.
