So who's in? Where are you staying and how long are you there?
I'm in for the Classic ATM. My knee has flared again so it might be a long walk for the run.
First time camper at a race. In fact, the last time I camped was about 30 odd years ago. Staying at the Holiday Haven Caravan Park until Monday morn with my son (so a few drinks on Sunday arvo to drown my sorrows).

In for the Aquabike. Should be a stacked field, so I doubt I’ll end up with any Townsville WC qualifying points. Alas.
Staying at the Quest, Nowra on Thursday and Friday as I have work at Nowra court. I might do the Friday evening ocean swim, haven’t decided yet. Will be staying with my wife at a Friend’s place in Nowra on Saturday. After the race - and a few hours recovery at our friend’s place, we are all off for the Sting Concert at a winery just outside Bowral later that afternoon/evening. Should be home in sydney by 11pm & I start a three month trial on Monday. I should be very dusty come 2:30pm, Monday, lols…

So, Elite energy emailed me the start lists. Entries have now closed I think, so at the moment there seem to be 19 starters in my current age group for the Aquabike (but I'm not sure whether some of the first names of a couple of competitors are male or female, so I’ve erred on the side by counting them as being male). however, there are only 7 males entered in the 55-59 category (which is the one I’m actually going to earn points in). So there is that.

Wetsuit, or non wetsuit? Apparently the water temp today is 22.8 degrees, down a point from yesterday, and nearly a degree since last week. …

Long Course only needs 24C, so Sunday is ok. For Friday and Saturday events,we might be lucky.

Another great weekend, Husky really is a special place
While I'm certainly not in career best form, I was pretty happy with how I went across the three days. Execution was on point, and on Sunday I was able to avenge my Saturday defeat to gregb 😁
Also great to catch up with Flanny and the inspirational Mr Flower. See you in Port mate 💪👍

Yeah Jimbo, thousands of athletes and spectators down there. It's pretty awesome with the number of entrants. Great catching up with you and Mr Flower too. Mrs Flower scored a 3rd in the Ultimate (with the best swim and run of the day). Geoff Brease scored a win in the Aquathon. Jimbo's better half also scored a 3rd in the Aquathon. Also saw Rooster down there who had a blinder. Bumped into Delly Carr and had a good chat. Just a fabulous bloke. Little Flanman enjoyed himself on Saturday. My knee held out to give me a pb in all disciplines from last year. Camping is.... fun. FM

Well done Flanman.
I am glad to get the Aquabike over and done with. Oddly, my age group (50-54) was the only one that had more than 20 starters, most had under 10. The good news for me is that the next age group up - the one that I actually score my qualifying points in for Townsville WC - only had 6 finishers - and although I am sure there will be a few from age group who will also ‘age up’ I should end up with a top 10-12 finish. Which - because Husky 23 is the National Championships and hence worth double points - should end up giving me more points than if I actually won any of the other qualifying races. Given my points haul from last weekend at Tweed, I should be safe in the qualifying stakes and hence I can relax and focus on actually getting fit in 18 months time. “The plan” calls for me to reintroduce running over the next three months with a view to doing two late season triathlons this year, then hit the gym over winter for strength conditioning, all the while consolidating the work I’ve done over summer on the swim and bike.
Great conditions on Sunday, although on my second lap towards the far turn around a big bunch of cyclists coming down the hill had a massive crash just after they passed me going up the other way. It didnt sound pleasant and the ambulance was still in attendance when I got back. I hope everyone is - more or less - ok.
I took it easy in the swim as I developed a really painful and extensive skin rash - probably psoriasis related - and I didnt want chafing to make it any worse than it is. Stress I think. Will know more today - hopefully - when I vist the skin specialist. On the bike I was slow, but consistently put out more power for longer than last weekend. The road surface and my power to weight ‘issues’ meant I cycled 7 minutes slower even though I felt slightly stronger. My day - like most people - started at 4.30, but in my case finished at 11.30pm when I finally made it home and to bed after seeing Sting in concert in the vineyards outside Bowral. An epic concert, and I have to say Sting - and not some triathlete - was by far the fittest looking 60+ year oldI saw yesterday (I cant actually believe he’s 71 …).

So, I scored 34 points out of a possible 50 at husky. Added to the 14 i scored at Tweed Enduro the week before, that gives me 48, and equal second on the progressive points table, because no one backed up in my age groups between events.
Hopefully winter training is strong and I’m actually fit enough to go top 5 on merit in my last qualifying race at Challenge Canberra in November this year. I’m aiming for a sub 3:20 by then.
