Pretty sure she had a heart issue similar to Welchy.

I think Prince is right.
I was thinking about Joanne King the other day. Specifically how Taylor Knibb reminds me of her. Especially Taylor’s audacious ‘let’s do Kona on 7 weeks of training, and suck it and see’ approach to The exercise. Which was totally old school. Tripping down amnesia lane I think Jo won the short course WC, and then asked Wilshire for some advice - which was in effect do a 200km ride once a week and build your long weekly run up to over 2 hours but otherwise dont change a thing. From memory i think she ripped a top 10 finish.

A quick snoop on facebook looks like she is a personal trainer in Torquay these days.

I remember Jo King at Forster (can't remember the exact year - somewhere between 1998 to 2001). I ran past her. She was lying down on her side in the shade with someone pouring water over her. I thought she was cooked and was going to DNF. She didn't.
One tough cookie.

Some Forster magic from 1998.
Jo King’s ironman debut, aged 22. Closed down a 12 minute gap at T2 to just over a minute behind Sian Welsh at the end. Jo would go on to win the ITU WC that year, but by the end of 2000 was lost to the sport for good.
What a talent.

IIRC she was one of the few to race using Campag. I saw her at the old Canberra HIM course, she was flying.
