From TWA
2022 Busselton Festival of Triathlon.
We are excited to announce that the 2022 Busselton Festival of Triathlon is scheduled to take place from Friday 29 April - Sunday 1 May 2022.
The 2021 event recently held was the last IRONMAN 70.3 Busselton event for Triathlon WA. We would like to thank IRONMAN for our partnership over the last 10 plus years.
The State Long Course Championships will still continue to form the marquee event of the Busselton Festival of Triathlon in future years, and we will provide more details about the event, entries opening and supporting events in the weeks to come.
Once again, on behalf of TWA, we thank IRONMAN and all the participants who have taken part in this iconic WA event.

The WA Long Course Race is owned and operated by TWA. For the last 10 years it has been an Ironman branded race, with TWA paying a very large license fee. In 2022 it will not be an IM branded event. I do not think that this will have a big impact on the number of local entrants. I think that it will reduce the number of Pro's and eastern states, not that WA is likely to allow virus ridden east coaster to cross the border . There will still be the full and half IM in Busselton in December, which is an IM owned race.

Will be interesting to track the numbers over the next 5 years.
When the same thing happened in Shepparton, the numbers really fell away and then came back but never got to the Ironman numbers

Well, we hope there will be a December race this year.......
Scoop?
No scoop. Just thinking about what needs to go into it, who needs to be able to freely get here, the likelihood of being able to get an international field in to make it financially worthwhile for IM. Hasn't stopped IM starting to spruik it though. If it doesn't go ahead though, we will still be down there for the weekend and I will do the distance again, only this time I'll do it in a more structured way rather than super ad hoc as I did it last year.

FWIW - they are currently taking entries for December. Although I wouldn't put it past them to take your $1000, hang on to it for a couple of months, then not give a refund.
