Caution - long post.
This weekend just gone I sat down and read through Emma Carney's book: Hard Wired: Life, Death and Triathlon.
I couldn't put it down.
Perhaps it was the fact(s) that:
1. I lived through and reported (as objectively as I could) on much of what Emma documented during the '90's and early 2000's for Australian Triathlete and then Triathlon and Multisport Magazines.
The book took me back to a time when Australia was the dominant force in the sport - probably the third "generation" of Australian triathletes that really burst onto the scene and stamped Australia's dominance on multisport globally. It was a good time to be involved in the sport at any level, but sadly it was also a time of greed, lies and corruption.
2. I read with disgust (but sadly not surprise) about (a) the incompetence and self serving, "pigs at the trough" mentally of Triathlon Australia Inc led by "CEO" (lol) Tim Wilson, Rob Pickard and then TA President Bill Walker, who were led by the nose by convicted pedophile and all round lunatic Brett Sutton, merrily down their own self-serving garden path.
I had written about the sham that was (and continues to be) Triathlon Australia Inc countless times in the aforementioned publications.
Sadly, my factual recounts were labelled "sour grapes" "jealously", etc. rather than being seen for what they were - a factual review of the fact that tax payers $$ were being misappropriated on the say-so of an illiterate, discredited former swim coach with this own nonsensical training, nutrition and tactical "theories" that defied basic human physiology and basic commonsense - but the aforementioned fools lapped it up. Sure Sutton has produced some good athletes - but he crippled and maimed many more in the process - both physically and psychologically and I saw the aftermath firsthand on more than one occasion.
Wilson, Walker et al at TA during that era were stupid (and self serving) enough to listen.
Thanks Emma for documenting precisely what I (and others) have been saying for 20 plus years.
Sadly the whole sham continues today with good, credentialed and qualified people like Emma and others cast aside because they refuse to tow the Triathlon Australia "company line".
3. I read in awe at just how tough you really are Emma, but I already knew that. Your book also made me realize just how human and vulnerable you are as well. Sometimes the general public doesn't see behind the public persona of those in the limelight. My heart bleeds for you that your career was cut short, for the losses you, Shelia, Claire and David and your kids have endured. We all have our sh!t, but seriously, the Carneys must have smashed countless mirrors by kicking black cats into them whilst walking under ladders - no family deserves such tragedy in one lifetime. I knew of Claire's "near miss" but was unaware of her husband's sad passing - my condolences to you all.
4. I knew - from chatting to you Emma - of the sh!t you'd endured during your marriage. Time heals and Jack will work it out for himself as he ages of that you can be certain. Enough said.
5. Hope your family stumbles across a patch of four leaf clovers sometime soon. You all deserve that for the sh!t you've all endured individually and as a family. Thanks for telling your story and getting the TRUTH out there - albeit 20 years too late. Looking forward to that coffee and a chat - happy to assist anyway I can in "shaking things up" going forward.
6. If you haven't already read Emma's book - do so. You don't have to be or have been a triathlete to enjoy it. It is simply a story worth reading.

He has also posted it on the Ironman Asia site.
Going to be interesting if it gets deleted from there or left.

Not sure what Mick Maroney was getting at with his comment on the original post but it certainly wasn't taken well.

Yes I read that. Reminds me of someone from Transitions after a few red wines.

I decided to listen to the Nici Andronicus podcast mentioned in that Facebook stuff, she gives it to Sutton. If all she says is true surprised Sutton didn't spend (a lot of) time in jail. www.puregrit.com.au/ep-26-nici-andronicus/
