Okay....slowly moving into the new world. Purchased a robot vacuum on the weekend. Absolutely love it. Have already set up zones and cleaning rosters. The cat ain't a fan....main reason for purchasing was to keep on top of her hair. It has far exceeded my expectations.
Now moving onto a TV. Still have a functioning plasma. Am now looking for a smart TV. The only requirement is 48 inch......don't need theatre size. Don't have Netflix or pay TV accounts.
What good and what do we look to avoid.

Ok, we might have got it longer ago than I thought as it doesn't seem to be a current model. LOL

I would suggest you go in store and ask to use things like the program guide and the navigation to “smart” features. I have a Sony and. Hisense, picture is much of a muchness but the hisense is so much of a pain to navigate that I hardly use it as a smart TV (it’s the bedroom tv anyway so doesn’t get used much) the Sony is simple and easy to use and navigate.

We bought a Samsung smart TV with inbuilt Android. Any app you can install on your phone you can install on the TV.
We have an older LG TV. You can not install newer apps like Stan or Disney+. So we have to stream them from our phones which is inconvenient.

Have a Kogan smart TV, couple of years old. Works well and clear. Can't tell difference to the LG that was 4x price and year newer

For SmartTVs, personally I find a lot of the inbuilt systems are... a bit on the poor side. And then as Ironnerd has found, the manufacturers don't always keep the software updated, which then means the apps cannot always be kept updated, which can then mean that your streaming service might not continue to work in the future.
Personally, we have an older Plasma, with no smart functionalities. But connected to the HDMI port is an Nvidia Shield, which is just an Android box, which does keep getting updates, and has been working great. (And can always be moved onto the next TV.) For most newer TV's the big issue seems to be the input lag, ie. how long between you pressing a button, and something happening on the screen. This is what you should go and test, and this is one of the main differences between some of the cheaper and more expensive screens.

I bought a Hisense 65" Series 8 last February (when my 50" plasma died). Details here... I didn't particularly want theatre size either, but it was a good deal from JB hifi ($1099). I'll warn you once you've used the BIG tv's even my partners 42" Sony looks small. I was advised to pay the $60 to get it delivered, to mitigate the damage risk while in transit to home, the thin screens are delicate. I also had to get my neighbor to assist with the unboxing and placement. There's no handling one of these monsters single handedly. Good luck. Which robovac did you get? I'm interested in getting one too.

We got a smart tv two weeks ago for outside on the patio wall. We ended up with a 55” TCL. Looked at hisense but it doesn’t have Disney channel, apparently this was a must have according to the kids. The salesperson guided us away from hisense, can’t remember why. But the TCL is doing a good job. Was very easy to setup.
It was our first new TV in 16yrs. The old Samsung 42” plasma still works a treat inside in the lounge room.

In all seriousness, if not using for Netflix etc, why do you actually have a need for a Smart TV Skel? If you current TV is still functioning ok as you suggest why not a simple Chromecast to turn your current TV "Smart", like this? We had a lot of trouble finding a good Smart TV for our caravan. We wanted something excellent quality as we live in the van fulltime. After a few false starts and lots of frustration (ie, anyone looking for a 12v Smart TV DO NOT buy Englaon TV's) we ended up with a regular "dumb TV" and the Chromecast and it does everything we need. Only issue I have found is that I had designs to use it to browse the web, but its clunky as, so simply cast using the laptop and works fine. Good luck

Hey Dalai. We got the Wertheim elegance. Was 799 but worth every cent. I have set up zones so can do room by room. Means I can do dirtiest areas more often. It goes under some furniture (bed). I tend to lift things up then set it off on its merry way. It doesn't have a self cleaning function, that is the next level pricing. I don't have an issue cleaning it out. It has mop function but haven't tried yesterday. It is only 2 adults and cat but takes away an annoying house chore.when it starts is goes around the perimeter and then cleans the middle section. It doesn't ping pong everywhere. PS....we are all tiles with only 2 rug. Okay....slowly moving into the new world. Purchased a robot vacuum on the weekend. Absolutely love it.
