This government doesn't give a crap about businesses, let alone regional businesses. They are openly going after elimination which is different to every other state in Australia which is taking on suppression, costing our economy way too much and moving big and medium size business to other states. Great perspective on sole traders: www.mamamia.com.au/sole-traders-victoria/

One reason state governments don’t care about small business, they don’t bring any revenue into the state ie payroll tax
So lockdowns don’t effect stare government revenue

1st Pfizer shot yesterday afternoon. Honestly didn't feel the needle at all. Slight ache in the upper arm from an hour later that is still persisting, had 2 nurofens this morning as had a slight headache. Got my run done this morning (in between deluges) no problem, felt it a bit doing pilates after - don't think I would be going for a swim today if pools were open. Since last night have developed a dry cough which I'm not sure if side effect or just something else - spent the night on the couch so as not to wake the wife about to go onto 5 night shifts in a row.
Getting the injection was interesting, had a booking. 2 things:
Had 2 police in uniform come in and get pushed to the front of the que, attendant apologised and said sorry, we have to give emergency services priority. A Vic Forest guy got the same treatment 2 minutes later - absolute crap with the number of times we (CFA) have to bail those guys out of trouble that they create. I was identified as 1B under emergency services, guess only those in uniforms get this type of priority, crap when the wait time without those 3 pushing in (sorry, given 'priority') would have been 15 minutes tops. I knew one of the people in the line was a health care worker as well and 1A, but didn't ask for special treatment either - even if you are a higher level, just don't be a dick about it when you are there - it's unaustralian.
My on the phone booking was with someone that definitely had English as a second language - kept polite with them and spelled everything out on the phone. They completely ballsed up my mobile number and I couldn't decipher the random letters that apparently were my email address. Seems this is common with anyone booking online, so take the time to check your details once you are there.
3 weeks until the second shot now. Should have it before the local hospital gets their clinic set up due to be in effect from mid July - by then most of the locals will be well and truly jabbed before they get going. 4 out of 7 in my team at work have all had the 1st shot by the end of this week - 2 of the others don't yet meet the age requirements to get it.

Fun times in Sydney it seems.
I wonder when you’ll have a lockdown and shut shops

I hope I'm wrong, but can't see the numbers easing down soon. The numbers of infectious while in the community are the problem.

And the positive cases we knew we'd have in Victoria have hit.
Returned travelers from NSW and the removalist
Fingers crossed.

And here we go again....... Another 5 days! On behalf of NSW, sorry! That's OK. It's upsetting though. I had planned to surprise my Mrs with a visit from her Mum(Melbourne based), she was booked to fly this morning and the border arrangements changed last night 😞😞🤷 I tried. Hope everyone stays well and takes care of themselves. ✌️

And here we go again....... Another 5 days! I predict 3 weeks and 3 days for Victoria. i also predict nsw / Sydney will be in theirs until November and then they will give up. and I predict that WA will remain shut to the whole east cost until 2022 i hope I’m wrong.

I hope you're wrong Pete, for all your sakes. If the 5 day works, it will really show how nsw stuffed it. And will show how these snap lockdowns can work. I can't believe the qld border is still open! I mean, we don't seem to be getting much of it here at least. My mate was in Gundy yesterday and he said the volume of caravans going through was massive.

State leaders seem to be so allergic the criticism that they'll do nothing till its too late. In Gladys case, its having a lockdown and in APs case its shutting the border

Is there method to the madness with your predictions Blew? Or is it just a gut feel. Genuinely curious as to where you are getting these timelines from. FWIW, I also think the 5 days will be extended. Hoping not. We are 5 weeks out from Shepparton Running Festival and I don't want to have to cancel it for the second year running and we were hoping to at least make up for what we lost last year.

I've just read that AP has shut the border........... to Victoria! WTF! But from what I can see it's still not closed to all of NSW, just the particular hot spots, Sydney etc.....

Put it this way, if you are in melbourne, you won’t be in a cafe Wednesday morning eating breakfast and then heading to the gym. dan wants to make a point and make Scomo hand over cash to support Victoria.

Interesting data out of the USA. Would love to know what percentage over 65 without have died too.
40 percent of all COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. were among diabetes patients, a new study finds.
This means that of the more than 608,000 Americans who have died of the disease since the start he pandemic, about 240,000 had diabetes.
Diabetics only account for 10 percent of the population, making the figure a staggering reminder how deadly the virus can be for people with the condition.

This below from dan Andrews. Pretty much says we will be in lockdown beyond 23 July.
Never going to be 5 days. Still think 3 weeks and 3 days. Then school kids will go back. .
Additionally, Victorians who can't go to work during this lockdown period will receive financial support as well. Applications open from 23 July, and I'll add the link to extra info in the comments below. .

Got to laugh at some of the stuff getting posted on here around elimination and doing as we're told or else! Latest reports out of europe are showing that herd immunity is an impossible target with the delta strain because of its ability to infect vaccinated people and still be transmitted. So all of those out there thinking we're going to hit 70-80% vaccinated of the over 16's and she'll be good (which I think is a pipe dream), are in for a nasty surprise. We'll then have countless millions still at risk of hospitalisation and dying. Which state premier is going to sign off on that? Here in QLD we've just signed off on 200 overseas specialists (doctors) coming in because we have acute shortages (paying business class fares for them and their families so at least they get to travel well). This is without widespread covid and we have hospitals regularly on bypass because they're full. So welcome to 12-18 months of lockdowns and businesses going bust - for those of you working in the public sector the gravy train can't keep going. Only solution I can think of is anyone who isn't vaccinated is in lockdown when there is a surge in cases unless they have a medical exemption to leave the house and they then do that at their own risk.

I have zero doubt that dan will keep Victoria locked down once we hit 80%.
He will find an additional reason to stay locked down

And for ages I haven't been able comprehend the whole thing. Until I spoke to my brother on the phone, he's in Melbourne. I am seriously sorry there's nothing I can do to help anyone. It's hardcore. Stay well. Get jabbed

You've already effectively said you're going to totally disregard all lockdown instructions anyway. This will come and no surprise but I’m done with the lockdowns I no longer care. I don’t wear masks outdoors anymore I go way beyond 5km riding and even went to a mates place for dinner last night about 30km away. I am double vaxed. I’ll NEVER get tests unless I have to for travel. I have done what has been asked for over 16 months. I stopped yesterday. I’ve chosen to live with covid like the rest of the world outside of Australia and New Zealand. And like always. I don’t care what anyone else thinks.

In ACT we have panicked the population, testing is over whelmed with people who simply don't need to be there and there is not enough capacity.
We ended up having a close contact, Health wrote to us telling us we would have priority access for the kids at a testing centre. When we go there, they said they knew nothing about that and their lines are 8 hours long.
Super markets have been smashed. Every day as they announce more contacts we end up with contacts on contacts, so if you were in woolies in a 2 hour period you are a contact then you create more contacts all adding to a testing load they can't meet now.
Health can't answer their phone or messages. The only upside is the lock down should see sites and contacts coming down. But a simple:
If you are a contact (and you will have a letter saying you are) get tested otherwise stay home and leave testing for those who need it. How ever with the current approach the entire population will be defined as a close contact soon
