Another plus of living in the country is that when Qantas piss you about and delay the flight by an hour, you can duck home in 7 minutes & have morning tea before going back to the airport....as we did on Friday.

Something to ponder this fine afternoon.
Barnaby Joyce lost his job for screwing a staffer. Alan Joyce has been screwing the entire country for months, keeps his job and gets a bonus.

A Qantas pilot friend. Yesterday was to fly to Tassie at 10am. Flight left at 10:05pm.
Pilots are only paid when in the air.
Mechanics to go on strike soon he said. There are only 36 of them in Melbourne and planes aren’t being serviced. Just being repaired when something is broken.

They get their duty allowances when in the air as opposed to from sign on time. There is a base rate in their certified agreement.

I work at one of the top 5 busiest airports in the world and just flew through 2 of the other 4. Seamless. Was second in line to check in and my bags beat me to the carousel twice. No airborne or ground delays either. Double fun fact is I didn't catch Rona either.
Australia has the second best aviation sector in the world. Who is first I hear you ask? Everyone else.

A 10.20am flight to Sydney. Qantas cancel it at 8am.
Luckily, we had anticipated their new mode of sh!t customer service and are flying down the day BEFORE my specialist appointment tomorrow, so should still make it...albeit with the extra cost of having to stay a night in Sydney.
The @#$%s.

They're gonna give me a $50 credit. Cost me $440 when my bag was delayed. I put in a claim for that (wishful thinking). They closed the case, said I'd not responded though I had. I responded again. Nada. Their customer service is sh!t.

Just got the Qantas email then. You have to claim your lounge entries via the link in the email, and then the $50 via the app. It just looks like all of their other spam emails.

I travelled up to the Gold Coast last Thursday and returned on Sunday - via Rex.
I cannot believe how many people were travelling domestic. Out of Sydney, there were around 500 lined up to check in at Jetstar. Luckily the Rex line have 5 in it. Loved it. At the Gold Coast on the way home, there were around 300 lined up to go through security. We were there early so just grabbed a drink and waited for 45 minutes until the line got smaller.
Just chaotic back in Sydney on Sunday night. Thousands of people waiting for flights.
It's just not Qantas that has problems.

Rex was quick and efficient. The planes were clean and seats very good. No in-house entertainment. A tea/coffee/water and pack of nuts for free. You can buy soft drinks and alcohol - no food for 1 hour flight. I booked emergency exit rows and cost $129 each way. 20 ks of luggage if required.
They have been voted most on-time flights in Oz plus least cancelled flights (however, they don't have many flights - mainly regional). I would definitively fly again with them.

FM REX are often able to land in Armidale when Qantas say the cloud is too low so they can't land. That means going back to Tamworth then a 1.5hr bus trip, or sometimes to Coffs (3hr bus trip) or sometimes all the way back to Sydney for the night.

And the REX flight just landed. So I'll have a plane tomorrow morning.

We live in Orange and fly REX to and from Sydney all the time, never had a problem other than one delayed flight, which happened to be our last one back from Sydney.Often get flights for $110 one way.

Now I have something to look forward to. I'm flying Los Angeles-Sydney-Wellington on Qantas in October. Airfare was US$150 cheaper than AirNZ, but the real decider was luggage. AirNZ allows up to 3 bags at 23kg each, Qantas 6 bags at 32kg each. Both include one bag in an economy fare and don't charge extra for bikes. I'll be hauling a lot with me, at least one bike box and three standard bags, in anticipation of an approved NZ residence visa sometime in the next year or so (application was only filed a year and a half ago, so no reason to be impatient :-).
Might have outsmarted myself.

I got the real story from a Qantas employee who like me was cancelled by Qantas & rebooked on REX.
They don't have enough staff to cover all their routes, so will cancel routes, Armidale usually being the first one to go.
Then they will say it was due to the weather, or an aircraft problem - which is usually BS.
Here's an idea. If you can't staff the flights, don't f*cken offer them then cancel them and piss people about you imbeciles.

REX = legends. Landed their plane last night when Qantas claimed they couldn't due to bad weather. Left on the dot of 6.30am & got me to Sydney 15mins early in plenty of time for my medical appt. The pilot on the plane back at 4pm got sick, so they got one off a Brisbane flight and we arrived back in Armidale only 35mins late with only 13 passengers on a 36 seater Saab - Qantas would have cancelled and put everyone on the late flight to save $'s. $150 each way with REX. Qantas as up to $300.

And now the Qantas cockheads have cancelled our return Arm-Syd flight when coming back from NZ, and put us on an earlier flight with a 1hr connection time. As if that will work having to get through customs!

As if that will work having to get through customs! Last time I got off a QANTAS flight from overseas (circa 2019) it took 90+minutes for the bags to arrive at the carousal, 9 minutes to get through customs, and 39 minutes to rebook our connecting flight to Brisvegas.
