This one looks pretty cut and dry - lots more positive across the globe this year. I wonder if tests are getting better or athletes getting lazy or complacent with COViD lack of testing.

I don't know any athlete that has had a failed A sample for EPO that has then returned a clean B sample, so yeah doesn't look good. I did have a look at his 800m progression over the years and it looks fairly linear and natural, no obvious jumps in performance like you would expect e.g Lamont Jacobs (100m runner) and Michelle Smith (swimmer). Both went from ranked 400th+ in the world to Olympic champion in 15 months. Bol dropped a "whole" 0.5s in 5 years for the 800m Not exactly bang for buck as far as PEDS go, especially considering the risk. Take a drug that will knock 0.5s off your time and risk losing your career, your livelihood, your reputation - everything. If he is doping, then he needs to get his $$ back from his dealer.

Who’s to say he hasn’t been on the gear for years , hence no big jump in performance

Touring the country in the Hummer towing a van. Had (has?) Mesothelioma according to FB. Gotta admit I needed to Google that. Pleural mesothelioma is thereby the deadliest type and, unfortunately, the most frequent in victims of asbestos exposure. The majority of people who lose their life to mesothelioma develop the following fatal health complications: shortness of breath. pleural effusion. guessing renovating houses as a career isn’t the best.

How is an a sample positive and the b negative.
Someone farked up Big time.
The testing at whatever lab needs to be abandoned and then bol sue their arses off as this will stick with him for life.
This is really bad.

Its going to be lawyers at 90 paces. Australian has an interesting article claiming the results should never have been released. Apparently they didn't even provide Bol with evidence of the test.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But he hasn't been cleared. The B sample contained traces of synthetic EPO as did the A sample. However the quantity of EPO in the V sample did not match that found in the A sample hence the fact Sports Integrity Australia has issued an "Atypical Finding". They have stated that they are still investigating. Somehow synthetic EPO has got in to his blood system (as shown by A and B samples) and there is only one way, through a syringe. He might still get away with it, but it still looks like he's guilty of doping.

So,up to this point i hadent commented on this subject as i had been fortunate to meet Peter on a number of occasions when he has been home here in perth
We both run on tuesday nights at the same track and Peter has a bunnch of the Langford Little athletics kids that he helps and runs with during his low season.
The few times we have talked led me to believe that the test was wrong simply by my impressions of him.....and sure i thaught Lance was just a 1 in a million athlete so what would i know.
But he just doesnt come across as anything but a nice guy.
So will mud stick...not in Perth it wont as he has had massive support here even through the media which is notoriouly fickle. The West Australian newspaper called it out as bullsh!t when it happened which is unusual.
I hope now he can get on with it and give the next few years a red hot go as he is pretty special to watch in real life when he is running.
For a bunch of Old Triathletes who are usually as cycnical as it gets he has made an impression on us.

I'm not sure why the 2 samples differ, I think because they do, those test results will be binned and he'll be cleared of doping. Not innocent, but insufficient proof.

I read this earlier:
The only reason the B sample was negative is he got lucky. It is really hard to test positive, even when you are taking it everyday.

Huh? don’t they draw blood and put half in one tube and the other half in another and test one. Keeping the second in case an example like this happens and the second is needed? somehow someone farked up but he’s cleared for sure. The testing failed.

Sounds like the EPO testing is as dodgy as RAT testing. IDK why they're inconsistent, but they are.

Yup, so the blood in sample A and B is from the same syringe and if there is x% of rEPO in sample A there should be the same amount in sample B. And if there's not then the lab will return an "atypical" finding. This doesn't mean his B sample was negative, it just means it didn't match sample A. Why didn't it match? From what I've read, it's very complex to test for rEPO and requires a degree of expertise, not just some bog standard lab worker. And as far as I know sample A and sample B were tested by two different labs, two different scientists.

I'm a big Bol fan, he's done a lot for Australian Athletics, but I would say in all likelihood he has been doping. But as I said previously, I think because of the atypical findings with the B sample. he'll be cleared. Note he has the same manager as Bernard Lagat and Marion Jones. Who both had atypical findings with their A and B samples.

I dont think it is fair to say he is doping as the testing is full of holes in this case, If it was any good, there is zero doubt the b sample would have been positive. Nor can you say he could be guilty by association. He will sue and he will rightly be compensated.

Zed,Ill go the other way and say in all likelihood he wasent doping and the authorities have cocked this up.If A is Positive so is B same blood same syringe ,same urine sample if its a piss test.
Saying its an Analytical Finding is a get of jail card for the authorities rather than saying sh!t sorry we were wrong and sorry we made your life a misery for 6 weeks.
The authorities circle the wagons and protect themselves,to do otherwise is to erode faith in the system.
