And so begins the death of Ironman. Vale. Nah ironman can make more money this way. sell the world champs each year around the world. still have the world champs in kona. still have the age groupers racing in kona.

And so begins the death of Ironman. Vale. I agree. as an example, no one even remembers Blu winning the world champs but they remember Iden's victory. Ironman really have no idea.

Just bringing this one back
The men's world champs is moving Nice, France for 2023, while the women will compete in Kona. In 2024, men will compete in Kona and women in Nice. This is for both pro and age-group.

Waiting to see how the numbers play out. Will the Nice roll-down be one of those "Anyone want a slot?" Events. Ah-la 70.3 worlds in a sh!t location.

Gutted, slotted to go to Kona in 2023 under legacy. While I understand the 2 day race in Kona placed significant strain on it's resources, this seemed rather late to be making changes to next year's race. What about those who have accepted qualification spots in recent races and made travel arrangements. I'm glad I haven't booked flights, only free cancellation accommodation.
Would be interesting to see what will be announced at Busso roll down this weekend, if Ironman has not made any official announcements by then. Will they just refer it as spots to the World Championships, but not mention Kona? Pete Murray will in the hot seat.

Nice is actually more famous than Kona. It used to be considered the triatlon world championships before Kona did their thing and started calling Kona the World Championships. Yanks copy everything I'd actually make a comeback to do Nice. Skip to 1hr for Nice race

I'm sure Ironman will allow those that are already on the list for Kona to go to Kona or roll it to 2024 if spltting the race is indeed true. You'll get to race Kona as your legacy. Ease up on the worry. Ironman arent the arseholes they used to be in the early 2000's. They have let me roll an Ironman entry 4 times now without even charging me an admin fee. Something they would have never done in the 2010 era

if it is all true, it will be the most idiotic decision ironman has ever made. Kona will essentially will be ladies only next year. what a croc of sh!te. In addition was reading that there are at least other 5 or 6 Ironmans in September. Messick needs to go. I just don't get why they ever messed around with 2 days in the first place. I understand it was only for the backlog from COVID so why they need to stick with 2 days is beyond me.

It seems that the 2 day format in Kona is completely untenable plus the fact Kona locals seem completely against having the race there. Plus a whole bunch of other reasons for not having it there. And wasn't the mayor doing some kind of review as well?

but it has survived for 30 years?, with few complaints, so i doubt anything has changed. No need for two days. one day -reduce the numbers and everyone is happy.

From a financial perspective, if it's more profitable for IM to have the World Champs elsewhere and they can cram in more competitors, then that's what they will do. The history of the race and it's iconic status in triathlon would be meaningless to them. It's sad, but there also are benefits to having the race elsewhere.

sorry Zed, i can't see any benefits. I think the coverage, the excitement, the conditions, the iconic venue, all make it for me. I mean tell me how St George earlier in the year in comparison to Kona later in the year was better? Sure the accomodation was expensive, but that was the demand for packing so many in.
IF its more about money, than there is no reason why they can't add another 1000 men to Nice. But doesn't that diminish the value to a world champs?
no one even remembers the podium at St George, it was meaningless. Even Blu thinks so, hence why he was eager to win at Kona next year.

I agree messick needs to go.
St george was lame because pros didn’t target it, because kona was on a few months later. If just nice is happening, they will perform

This is true problem is IM have sold the two day format for 2023 , but big island says NO to two days IM is now in the sh!te so they need to do something they are getting on the women in sport bandwagon which is great but the amount of spots now for women , almost everyone will get a spot if they want it at each race They need to fix this ASAP and get kona back to what it was it’s been fffarked for years with tooo many on course as IM chase the $$$$$$ and over sell kona need to bring back spots to just certain races EG championships etc so if port was the AUS champs then port gets all spots for the year , say 150 and busso and cairns get nothing rotated around make entry $2k US

This is for both pro and age-group. I call BS on this. no official announcement from Ironman. Its funny How I am always right. predicted this weeks ago. www.ironman.com/news_article/show/1249526Following the first-ever two-day IRONMAN World Championship and a continued commitment to providing women and men their own dedicated day of racing, the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship will occur in two different host venues. To ensure that both professional and amateur women and men have a focused IRONMAN World Championship race experience, the women will race in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i on October 14, 2023, with the men’s race date and location outside of Hawai`i currently being evaluated and expected to be announced in January 2023. For 2024, the men and women would exchange locations. The 2022 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship was held this past October in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i over two days for the first time in the history of the event, showcasing the very best women and men in the sport while giving both their deserved spotlight. With the future dual host locations and separation of race weeks, the women’s and men’s races will each garner further attention with all eyes focused on the race week activities and lead up to their respective IRONMAN World Championship race days. While the 2022 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship two-day format was a success in many areas and the two-day format in Kailua-Kona for 2023 had already been announced, IRONMAN and the County of Hawai'i concluded together that the impact of two days of racing in Kona is not currently in the best interest of the local community. “We are reinforcing our commitment for a dedicated world championship race experience for women and men to each receive an exclusive spotlight on their race. Hawai`i is in our DNA and we look forward to the first-ever exclusively women’s world championship race week in Kona. At the same time, we are looking forward to announcing a co-host location for the men’s race that will be worthy of an IRONMAN World Championship and will capture the imagination of our athletes and fans,” said Andrew Messick, President & Chief Executive Officer for The IRONMAN Group. Hawai`i is the proud birthplace of IRONMAN and despite not being able to undertake a two-day world championship event at this time, it will continue to be an important part of the shared history of IRONMAN, with Kona continuing as a co-host of the IRONMAN World Championship. “Hawai`i County has long enjoyed partnering with IRONMAN and this year’s epic races were another example of world-class athletic competition held on the traditional Kona-Kohala world championship course,” said Hawai`i County Mayor Mitch Roth. We learned, however, that more than one race day during IRONMAN week is too many for the community to manage. We are pleased that IRONMAN plans to return to Kailua-Kona as a co-host of the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship and look forward to more exciting events in the future.” With this major move to ensure dedicated IRONMAN World Championship racing for both women’s and men’s fields, the qualifying cycle and slot allocations will be slightly adjusted. Allocations may be viewed here, with further adjustments to occur in line with the men’s championship race location announcement in January. Additionally, all athletes who have previously qualified and registered for the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship will be contacted directly with additional information.
